Eleanor J Roland

Dr. E. Joyce Roland, PhD, RN, is a retired Associate Professor of Nursing with over 30 years of academic and clinical experience, specializing in Women’s Health, Maternal-Child Care, and holistic wellness. A graduate of Winston-Salem State University, she has taught at North Carolina Central University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Liberty University, and conducted research at Research Triangle Institute (RTI) in Research Triangle Park, N. C. Dr. Roland is the founder of Roland Literary and Consultant Services, focusing on preventive health education strategies (including substance use and abuse factors), healthy aging, pain management, leadership development, and mentoring, particularly among African American women, adolescents, and Seniors. In 1999-2001, Dr. Roland completed post doctoral studies at the Alcohol Research Group in Berkeley, CA. investigating Substance Use and Abuse among minority populations, including both women and men in substance abuse treatment. Her findings have been published in major research publications related to women, adolescents and minority health. She completed her masters degree in Nursing Education and Maternal-Child Care at Seton Hall University in South Orange, NJ, and received the doctorate (PhD) in Community Psychology at North Carolina State University. She has contributed chapters to numerous books in the Professional Woman Network series and led community initiatives including breast cancer support and advocacy for abused women in Durham/RTP area over the years just prior to her retirement. An avid traveler, poet, and lifelong learner, Dr. Roland also enjoys bird watching, photography, and family time. She is a proud wife, mother of three accomplished daughters, and grandmother to five energetic grandchildren
