For Ages 4 - 7 (Early Learners, Academic, Critical Thinking & Problem Solving Focus)
Blacks-In Book Club for ages 4 - 7 is a warm, engaging learning space where young children explore stories by Black authors and begin building academic, thinking, and problem solving skills. Key features include:
Shared reading of picture books and illustrated stories, with reading aloud and interactive storytelling.
Critical thinking: asking open-ended questions (e.g. Why do you think the character did that? What might happen if they chose something different?) to spark reasoning and perspective.
Problem-solving: identifying problems in stories and brainstorming solutions, or deciding together how a character could act differently.
Activities that reinforce thinking: drawing, acting out scenarios, sorting, matching, comparisons, and “what if” games that let children imagine alternate outcomes.
Social and academic foundations: listening, speaking, following directions, expressing thoughts, being curious and confident.
